The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that Dennise Merdjanian, an operator of a Nevada-based student loan debt-relief scheme, will be permanently banned from the debt-relief and telemarketing industries under a proposed order resolving charges that she and others took more than $45.9 million from consumers. The FTC alleged that Merdjanian and her companies falsely claimed to be affiliated with the U.S. Department of Education and promised borrowers student loan forgiveness, while taking their money through the scheme.
